ISLAMABAD, September 15, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and relevant departments to remain fully prepared for heavy rains and possible flooding during the ongoing monsoon season.
The Prime Minister gave the directions during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The NDMA chairman briefed the Prime Minister on preparations made to deal with heavy rainfall and possible flood situations during the current monsoon season. He also informed him about the expected weather trend and coordination between federal and provincial institutions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed authorities to use all available resources to provide relief and assistance to people affected by heavy rains and flooding.
He also instructed relevant departments to ensure the movement of traffic on roads and bridges remains as smooth as possible during rainfall and to improve coordination for the timely delivery of relief supplies to affected communities.
The Prime Minister further directed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with provincial disaster management authorities and other relevant provincial institutions.
Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik said that, following the Prime Minister’s directions for advance preparations, relevant institutions had been able to monitor the monsoon season more effectively and take timely measures.
The briefing noted that all relevant departments across the country are prepared for rescue and relief operations in case of any emergency caused by severe weather.
As heavy rainfall and flooding can cause serious damage to communities, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, early warning, advance planning and coordination among disaster management agencies remain important for reducing risks and protecting lives.
