ISLAMABAD: Rawal Dam, one of Islamabad’s most important water reservoirs and a popular recreational site, is facing growing environmental concerns after a large number of dead fish were found floating along its shoreline, raising alarm among residents over worsening pollution.
Large and small fish, were seen lying dead at several locations around the dam, while polluted water and a foul smell have further heightened public concern about the deteriorating condition of the reservoir.
Residents said the upper section of the dam is littered with garbage and waste, and visitors are greeted by an unpleasant odor upon arrival. They described the current state of Rawal Dam as alarming, saying its natural beauty and ecological health have been severely affected.
The stench from the decomposing fish has made it difficult for people to remain near the waterfront, while families and tourists visiting the area for recreation are also facing inconvenience.
Citizens have urged the relevant authorities to immediately clean the reservoir, investigate the cause of the fish deaths, and identify the sources of pollution affecting the water body.
They also called for effective measures to improve water quality and protect the dam’s aquatic ecosystem, warning that failure to act promptly could result in further damage to aquatic life and pose a serious threat to Rawal Dam’s fragile environment.
