LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a new mechanism for collecting sanitation fees from residential and commercial properties in urban areas across the province.
Under the new arrangement, the Suthra Punjab Authority and the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department have signed a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the collection of sanitation fees. Director General Suthra Punjab Umar Javed and Director General Excise and Taxation Umar Sher Chattha signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials.
For the 2026-27 financial year, the Excise and Taxation Department will collect the sanitation fee along with property tax. It will also conduct door-to-door surveys, print sanitation bills and handle complaints and corrections related to the bills.
The new system provides for a uniform sanitation fee structure across urban areas of Punjab. Residential properties will be charged according to their size:
- Up to 5 marla: Rs300 per month
- 5 to 10 marla: Rs500 per month
- 10 to 20 marla: Rs1,000 per month
- 20 to 40 marla: Rs2,000 per month
- Above 40 marla: Rs5,000 per month
Commercial units will be charged Rs500 per month for small units, Rs1,000 for medium units and Rs3,000 for large units.
The decision to assign sanitation fee collection to the Excise and Taxation Department was taken during the 36th meeting of the Provincial Cabinet Committee in August. The department will receive a 1 percent service charge for collecting the fees.
The new mechanism is intended to bring sanitation fee collection, billing and complaint handling under a single system across Punjab’s urban areas.
