Punjab EPA has directed all brick kilns in Faisalabad to operate only with Zig-Zag technology under the Pre-Smog Action Plan 2026 to curb air pollution.
FAISALABAD: The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming smog season by engaging brick kiln owners in Faisalabad to ensure strict implementation of the Pre-Smog Action Plan 2026.
A consultative meeting was chaired by Additional Director General (Operations) EPA Punjab Dr. Zafar Iqbal, alongside Deputy Director EPA Faisalabad Usman Azhar and officers of the Environment Protection Force. Representatives of the Faisalabad Brick Kiln Association also attended the meeting.
During the session, EPA officials issued clear directives that no brick kiln will be allowed to operate without adopting Zig-Zag technology, a cleaner and more energy-efficient system designed to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
The agency also announced zero tolerance for black smoke emissions, stating that enforcement teams would conduct round-the-clock surveillance and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations throughout the smog season.
Representatives of the Brick Kiln Association appreciated the EPA’s proactive engagement and assured the department of their full cooperation in implementing Zig-Zag Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The meeting forms part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to reduce air pollution and strengthen environmental compliance ahead of the winter months, when smog levels typically rise across the province.
