ISLAMABAD: A fire that broke out at the Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Centre of PIMS Hospital early Wednesday morning was brought under control promptly after Capital Emergency Service (CES) and CDA Fire Department teams responded swiftly to the emergency.
According to the emergency response update, the fire call was received at approximately 6:54am, while fire and rescue teams reached the hospital within seven minutes.
A total of six fire brigade units and four ambulances were deployed to deal with the incident. The fire was subsequently brought under control, followed by cooling and assessment operations.
Children rescued from the affected area were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for immediate medical attention.
The response involved fire tenders, rescue teams, CES ambulances and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration.
Officials said the exact number of casualties and injured persons is still being verified by the Assistant Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, rescue teams and hospital administration.
Meanwhile, a committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG), ICT, has been constituted to investigate the cause of the fire, assess the emergency response and examine the effectiveness of fire-safety arrangements at the hospital.
Authorities said further details regarding casualties and the findings of the investigation will be shared after verification.
