ISLAMABAD – July 22, 2026: The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences awarded degrees to 270 graduates in engineering and applied sciences at its 12th convocation on Wednesday.
The ceremony was held at the Inam-ur-Rehman Auditorium under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
PAEC Chairman and PIEAS Board of Governors Chairman Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar attended as chief guest and conferred degrees on graduates from six academic disciplines.
Degrees were awarded in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials and metallurgy engineering, chemical engineering, physics, and computer and information sciences.
Addressing the ceremony, Anwar said women constituted a significant proportion of the graduating class, reflecting their growing participation in science, engineering and emerging technologies.
He said Pakistani women were increasingly contributing to scientific advancement and national development.
The PAEC chairman urged graduates to take advantage of expanding opportunities in scientific research, innovation and emerging technologies.
He encouraged young engineers and scientists to contribute to the development of a knowledge-based, innovative and self-reliant economy.
Anwar also advised graduates not to restrict their ambitions to securing employment and instead consider entrepreneurship and creating jobs for others.
He said practical experience, integrity and professional excellence would play an important role in building successful careers.
The PAEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting higher education, advanced research and skilled human resource development through institutions such as PIEAS.
He urged graduates to serve the country honestly and represent it positively through their professional conduct.
Earlier, PIEAS Rector Dr. Anila Usman congratulated the graduates and highlighted the university’s focus on employability, research and links with industry.
She said PIEAS was working to prepare scientists and engineers capable of contributing to the country’s technological and economic development.
PIEAS is ranked joint 560th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, improving from the 721–730 band in the 2026 rankings.
The rector said the university would continue investing in quality education, applied research, innovation and collaboration between academia and industry.
The convocation was attended by Scientist Emeritus Dr. Inam-ur-Rehman, senior PAEC officials, faculty members, graduates and their families.
