ISLAMABAD, August 10, 2026: Pakistan and Russia have agreed to explore new avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture and livestock, with a particular focus on modern farm machinery, agricultural inputs, animal health and technology.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a high-level meeting with Nikita Buzanov, Representative of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the agriculture sector.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with Russia and said Islamabad was keen to translate bilateral ties into practical cooperation in sectors directly linked to food security and agricultural productivity.
The minister welcomed Russia’s interest in supporting Pakistan’s agricultural development through enhanced trade, technology and technical cooperation.
He said access to modern and efficient agricultural machinery was essential to increase farm productivity, reduce production costs and accelerate mechanisation in Pakistan’s agriculture sector. He expressed Pakistan’s interest in expanding cooperation with Russia in the supply of modern agricultural machinery and related technologies.
The federal minister also stressed the need to ensure timely availability of quality fertilisers and pesticides to farmers at affordable prices. He said enhanced cooperation with Russia in these areas could help improve agricultural productivity and contribute to Pakistan’s food security goals.
Discussing the livestock sector, Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation in animal health, particularly through access to quality vaccines and modern technologies.
He said effective disease prevention and improved animal health services were vital for increasing livestock productivity and protecting the livelihoods of farmers.
The minister called for greater engagement between relevant government institutions and private-sector stakeholders in both countries to identify areas where bilateral cooperation could be translated into concrete projects and mutually beneficial trade.
Nikita Buzanov briefed the minister on Russia’s interest in expanding agricultural cooperation with Pakistan. He said Russian companies and institutions were ready to explore opportunities to supply agricultural machinery, fertilisers, pesticides and vaccines to Pakistan.
He expressed Russia’s willingness to work with Pakistani authorities to assess the requirements of the country’s agriculture sector and develop mechanisms for closer cooperation in agricultural inputs, machinery and animal health products.
Buzanov also highlighted the potential for increasing bilateral trade in agriculture-related products and strengthening institutional linkages between Pakistan and Russia.
Welcoming the Russian interest, Rana Tanveer Hussain directed the relevant authorities to closely examine potential areas of cooperation and facilitate practical and result-oriented engagement between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations and explore further opportunities for cooperation aimed at improving agricultural productivity, ensuring access to quality farm inputs and machinery, strengthening animal health services and supporting Pakistan’s broader food security objectives.
