ISLAMABAD: A Climate Action Walk was organised in Islamabad to raise public awareness about the growing risks of climate change and the importance of environmental protection.
The walk was organised by the Rakhsanda Memorial Welfare Foundation in collaboration with Cheezious Pakistan and the Environment Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The initiative aimed to raise awareness among citizens, particularly young people, about the impacts of climate change, environmental conservation, tree plantation, cleanliness and responsible citizenship.
Participants expressed their commitment to adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles and playing an active role in protecting their surroundings.
The event was attended by Rakhsanda Memorial Welfare Foundation founder Tehreem Zaki, CDA Director General Environment Irfan Azim Khan Niazi and representatives of Cheezious Pakistan.
Addressing the participants, speakers said climate change was a global challenge that required coordinated efforts by governments, private organisations, civil society groups and volunteers. They stressed that public awareness, youth participation and collective action were essential for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Founder of the Rakhsanda Memorial Welfare Foundation, Tehreem Zaki, said young people were among the strongest forces for bringing positive change to society.
She said volunteer activities could not only promote environmental protection but also contribute to building a responsible and empowered society. She reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to continuing initiatives focused on environmental awareness and youth welfare.
CDA Director General Environment Irfan Azim Khan Niazi said every citizen had a role to play in addressing the impacts of climate change.
He emphasised the importance of tree plantation, maintaining cleanliness and adopting environmentally friendly habits, saying that building a clean and green Pakistan was a shared responsibility.
Representatives of Cheezious Pakistan said the company continued to support long-term and sustainable initiatives under its corporate social responsibility programme, particularly those aimed at youth engagement, volunteerism, environmental awareness and community development.
They said the company’s “Azadi Cheez Hai Aesi” campaign was encouraging young people to participate in positive social activities, promote volunteer services and contribute to building a better society.
Cheezious Pakistan also supported the event as its food sponsor.
The Climate Action Walk concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to promoting climate awareness, tree plantation, cleanliness and environmental protection.
The organisers said collective efforts involving government institutions, the private sector, civil society and volunteers could play a significant role in advancing environmental protection and building a safer, greener and more climate-resilient Pakistan for future generations.
