ROME: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening animal health systems and advancing sustainable One Health solutions to help prevent future pandemics.
The minister was speaking at the opening of the FAO Pandemic Fund Global Event at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s US$18.7 million investment through the Pandemic Fund, supported by US$4.1 million in co-financing and US$49.7 million in co-investment.
He said Pakistan was making progress in strengthening national One Health coordination, veterinary laboratory networks, animal disease surveillance and rapid response capacities.
Dr. Thanawat Tiensin, Assistant Director-General and Director of FAO’s Animal Health and Production Division, also participated in the event.
The minister stressed the importance of stronger animal health systems and coordinated action across human, animal and environmental health sectors to address emerging health risks.
Pakistan’s focus on One Health is aimed at improving disease prevention, early detection and response capacity while supporting more sustainable and resilient health systems.
