ISLAMABAD: Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik has expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with Nepal following the devastating floods and offered all possible support in search, rescue and recovery operations.
Dr Musadik Malik made the offer during a meeting with Nepalese Ambassador Rita Dhital, where the two sides discussed climate-related disasters and the need for stronger regional cooperation.
The minister said Pakistan was ready to share its experience, modern technology and technical expertise with Nepal to help strengthen disaster response and recovery efforts.
He said technologies such as satellites, drones and artificial intelligence could be used to improve disaster monitoring, early warning systems and emergency response.
Dr Musadik Malik said natural disasters could not always be prevented, but their impacts could be reduced through better planning, preparedness, technology and timely action.
He stressed that countries in the region needed to develop joint strategies to deal with growing climate-related disasters.
Pakistan also offered to share its experience and risk data related to Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), which pose a serious threat to vulnerable communities in mountainous areas.
The minister said developing countries could not bear the growing losses caused by climate-related disasters on their own. He called for stronger international cooperation and greater support for vulnerable countries.
Dr Musadik Malik said he would raise the issue of climate-related losses and Loss and Damage at the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP), highlighting the need for greater international attention to countries facing severe climate impacts.
The meeting highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, technology and shared knowledge in building stronger communities against floods and other climate-related disasters.
