MUSCAT, September 15, 2026: Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan has called for stronger regional cooperation, greater climate adaptation support and fair climate financing for vulnerable countries like Pakistan.
She made the remarks while attending the opening session of Oman Climate Week (OCW) 2026 in Muscat. The event brought together government representatives, climate experts, industry leaders, investors, international organisations and civil society groups.
The inaugural session was attended by the President of Oman’s Environment Authority, a representative of the President of Azerbaijan, climate leaders from several countries and experts from United Nations agencies and non-governmental organisations.
Oman Climate Week is the country’s national climate platform and includes a three-day programme featuring a high-level conference, exhibitions, workshops, business meetings and executive dialogues. The expo is showcasing technologies, services and projects related to energy, water, industry and environmental protection.
Dr Shezra participated in a high-level ministerial panel titled “Road to COP31.” She said Pakistan has made a very small contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions but remains among the countries most affected by climate change.
She described climate change as a crisis linked to water, food and human security and stressed that climate impacts do not stop at national borders. She called for regional solutions and stronger cooperation among countries facing common climate risks.
The Minister of State said climate adaptation has become a major priority for vulnerable countries such as Pakistan. She called for climate finance to give greater attention to adaptation and urged developed countries to take greater responsibility for supporting developing nations.
She also called for fair and inclusive climate solutions that protect people and do not increase the financial burden on developing countries. She said the answer should not be more loans, but greater access to grants and concessional climate finance.
On the sidelines of the event, Dr Shezra held meetings with Dr Roberta Boscolo, Climate and Energy Leader at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Dr Stewart Maginnis, Deputy Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
During her meeting with Dr Boscolo, the Minister discussed possible cooperation between Pakistan and WMO in climate forecasting and disaster prevention. With Dr Maginnis, she discussed cooperation with IUCN in areas including biodiversity, energy transition, and gender and climate action.
Pakistan’s participation in Oman Climate Week comes as the country continues to face serious risks from floods, extreme weather, water stress and other climate impacts, making stronger adaptation measures and international climate support increasingly important.
