The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning alert signaling a dangerous rise in air pollution in and around the capital city of Islamabad.
According to the alert, citizens in Islamabad are advised to be vigilant as the Air Quality Index (AQI) has risen to 240. The concentration of PM2.5 in Islamabad currently stands at 37.9 times the annual guideline value of air quality set by the World Health Organization. (WHO).
Rawalpindi records an AQI value of 270, while Lahore follows closely behind with a value of 185.
In response to the escalating air pollution in Islamabad, the NDMA advises citizens to wear masks and limit outdoor activities to mitigate health risks.
The NDMA emphasizes the urgency of the situation and urges citizens to take precautionary measures, including wearing masks and staying hydrated, amid deteriorating air quality.
Due to increasing pollution and no rains, flu cases have increased.

Patients with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart and lung disease, pregnant women, the elderly and children under five are at higher risk of developing severe or complicated diseases.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted cold and dry conditions in Islamabad and adjoining areas.
Cold and dry weather is expected in most of the country’s plains. West Balochistan may experience rain and snow expected in mountainous areas.
In addition, dense fog is covering various regions in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Upper Sindh.
