ISLAMABAD, Aug 31, 2026: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert warning of possible flooding in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and the Potohar region over the next 48 hours due to expected rainfall.
According to the alert, rainfall in the upper parts of the country could increase water levels and flows in rivers, while several streams and nullahs may experience flooding.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas including Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Hunza, Skardu, Astore and Shigar have been identified as potentially vulnerable to flooding.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Nowshera are among the areas facing a potential flood risk.
The NDMA has also warned of possible flooding in Bagh, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Haveli, Bhimber, Sudhanoti, Mirpur and Kotli in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Potohar and Punjab, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum could experience flooding and increased water levels in local streams and nullahs.
Other vulnerable areas in Punjab include Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Narowal and Kasur, while Okara, Wazirabad, Hafizabad and Sargodha have also been included in the potential flood-risk areas.
The NDMA has urged concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures in vulnerable locations, particularly around rivers, streams and low-lying areas.
Residents, tourists and travellers in risk-prone areas are advised to monitor official weather and disaster alerts and avoid crossing flooded roads, streams or areas experiencing strong water flows.
