Multan Launches Major Tree Plantation Drive to Boost Urban Green Cover

MULTAN: The Horticulture Agency (HA) Multan has launched an extensive tree plantation campaign across the city during July and August to expand green spaces, improve air quality and promote a healthier urban environment.

The initiative is being carried out on the directives of Managing Director Horticulture Agency Syed Waseem Hassan, with plantation work already underway along the Multan Avenue corridor, stretching from Northern Bypass to Seho Chowk.

As part of the campaign, large numbers of indigenous and shade-producing trees are being planted on green belts, road medians and roadside spaces. The selected species include Pilkan, Jatropha, Arjun and other native trees suited to the local climate.

Syed Waseem Hassan said the agency had developed a comprehensive plantation strategy to take full advantage of the favourable weather conditions during July and August, ensuring the successful establishment of newly planted trees.

He said priority would be given to native and shade-giving species because of their long-term environmental benefits, including reducing urban heat, improving biodiversity, enhancing air quality and strengthening the city’s resilience to climate change.

The managing director also called on philanthropists, corporate organisations, educational institutions and residents to actively participate in the plantation campaign, stressing that collective action is essential to address environmental challenges and create a greener, more sustainable Multan.

The campaign forms part of the agency’s broader efforts to increase the city’s green cover and promote climate-friendly urban development.
