MOHMAND: The Mohmand Forest Division organized a mega plantation drive at Mohmand Dam on August 14, 2026, as part of the Monsoon Plantation Campaign 2026, linking Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day celebrations with a renewed focus on environmental conservation and a greener future.
Senior government officials, engineers, project representatives and other stakeholders participated in the activity, highlighting the importance of tree plantation, forest conservation and sustainable development alongside major infrastructure projects.
Officials Join Plantation Campaign
The event was attended by Cui Jan, Chinese Project Manager; Fu, representative of the Chinese Project Management Team; Fasih Ullah Paracha, General Manager WAPDA; Brigadier Razi Khan; Engr. Ijaz Ahmad, Chief Engineer; Rabnawaz, Director; Colonel Shehzad; Major Farooq; and Khuda Bakhsh, Project Director DESCON.
Afzal Khan, Assistant Environment Officer, and other officials and project representatives also participated in the event.
The guests formally inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting saplings at the Mohmand Dam project site.
A range of tree and ornamental species were planted, including olive, chinar, ashoka, ficus, chir pine, bottle brush, phulai, ber, kikar and China doll. The plantation activity added green cover to the landscape surrounding the major development project.
Environment and Development Highlighted
Participants appreciated the initiative by the Mohmand Forest Division and stressed the importance of incorporating environmental protection into infrastructure development.
They described the plantation drive as an example of cooperation between government departments, development projects and other stakeholders to advance environmental conservation.
The participants also said Independence Day provided an opportunity not only to celebrate Pakistan’s freedom but also to reaffirm responsibility toward future generations.
They emphasized that protecting forests, restoring ecosystems and increasing green cover can contribute to cleaner air, healthier communities and stronger climate resilience.
The Mohmand Forest Division reaffirmed its commitment to expanding plantation, forest conservation and environmental restoration activities across the region under the Monsoon Plantation Campaign 2026.
The event concluded with a shared commitment to promoting a greener and more climate-resilient Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the newly planted saplings at Mohmand Dam representing a long-term investment in the region’s environmental future.
