MARDAN, Aug. 6: As part of the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2026 and preparations for the Independence Day Plantation Drive, the Mardan Forest Division organized an awareness and plantation event at Shankar with the participation of youth volunteers, local elders, and Village Council Secretaries.
The event was attended by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mardan as the chief guest, while the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) USC and Community Development Officer (CDO) Mardan also participated.
During the awareness session, participants were educated on the importance of tree plantation, environmental conservation, climate resilience, and the vital role of local communities in protecting forests and natural resources.
Following the awareness programme, more than 200 saplings were planted along Fatima Road to help expand the area’s green cover and promote a healthier environment.
To further encourage public participation in the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign, the Mardan Forest Division distributed 2,000 ornamental plants to members of the local community for plantation at homes, public spaces, and community sites.
Officials said the initiative reflects the Forest Department’s commitment to increasing forest cover, strengthening community involvement in afforestation, and supporting the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s efforts to combat climate change through sustainable tree plantation activities.
