RAWALPINDI: Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd.) Nadeem Nasir chaired a high-level meeting to review ongoing development projects under the Punjab Development Programme, with a special focus on improving water supply, sewerage infrastructure, and access to safe drinking water across the city.
The meeting reviewed the progress of projects being implemented by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority.
Officials informed the meeting that work is underway to replace 108 old water supply pipelines, while the installation of 38 kilometres of new water supply lines is progressing in different parts of Rawalpindi to improve the city’s water distribution network.
The meeting was also briefed on a project to lay 87 kilometres of new sewerage lines, which is nearing completion. Construction of a new sewerage line on Jamia Masjid Road is also progressing at a fast pace to strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure.
Authorities further reported that efforts are underway to make 252 government-operated and 246 privately managed filtration plants fully operational. Meanwhile, the rehabilitation of 39 non-functional filtration plants has entered its final phase.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to ensure additional protective measures for sewerage infrastructure during the ongoing monsoon season to minimize the risk of flooding and drainage failures.
He also instructed officials to expedite the completion of all ongoing development schemes and emphasized the importance of providing residents with uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and an efficient sewerage system at the earliest possible stage.
