PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved 17 tourism road projects worth around Rs5 billion to improve access to major tourist destinations and promote sustainable tourism across the province.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Tourism Malik Adeel Iqbal said the projects were approved by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi as part of the provincial government’s strategy to strengthen tourism as a key driver of economic growth and regional development.
Under the approved plan, approximately 91.5 kilometres of roads will be constructed and rehabilitated in Upper Chitral, Swat, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir, connecting some of the province’s most popular tourist destinations.
The improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate easier and safer travel for both domestic and international tourists, enhance connectivity to scenic valleys, and support the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
Malik Adeel Iqbal said the initiative would also stimulate local economies by creating new opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and other tourism-related businesses.
He added that the projects are expected to generate employment, attract private investment, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by expanding tourism infrastructure and improving visitor experience across the province.
