A 90-year-old woman trapped under rubble on Monday was found alive nearly five days after an earthquake struck the city of Suzu, Japan.
The woman remained trapped under the debris for nearly 125 hours, US Today reported.
The as yet unidentified woman was trapped in a narrow space between the first and second floors of her house. She suffered multiple injuries, including leg and knee injuries, and was hospitalized.
According to a member of the rescue team, “This is a very rare case because it involves saving a person alive quite a long time after the earthquake,” which is amazing.
In addition, according to local news channels, paramedics also found a woman in her 40s in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest at the same location.
According to Inaba Mototaka, a doctor from the non-profit organization Peace Winds Japan, a person has a better chance of survival after 72 hours if they are in warm conditions and have access to water.

The massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Monday and the aftershocks and landslides have so far left 126 dead, more than 500 injured and 200 missing.
Rescue operations are facing problems due to rain and snow. Officials fear that the roads, which are already cracked, could collapse completely, making it difficult to deliver aid and humanitarian supplies.
As of 2020, more than 500 small and medium-sized earthquakes have struck, making Japan one of the most seismically active countries in the world.
