The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday named wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the T20 team.
The board announced the development at X, formerly known as Twitter.
“@iMRizwanPak has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Pakistan T20I team,” the PCB wrote in its post.
Rizwan replaces Shadab Khan in the coveted post in the team and will take the reigns as captain Shaheen Shah Afridi’s deputy in the team for the shortest format of cricket.
It is to be noted that Rizwan was recently favored by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for the captaincy over left-arm quick Shaheen in the T20 team, a comment that raised many eyebrows.
Speaking at an event in Australia, Afridi praised the wicketkeeper-batsman and preferred him over his son-in-law Shaheen for the T20 captaincy.

The legendary all-rounder of his era said, I admire Rizwan’s hard work and level of focus. His best quality, which I like the most, is to focus only on his game and not pay attention to who is doing what and what not. He really is a fighter!”
“I want to see him [Rizwan] as the T20 captain, but by mistake, Shaheen became the captain,” Afridi said in a lighter tone, looking at the left-arm quick sitting behind him at the event.
