ISLAMABAD: Torrential rainfall in the federal capital caused an urban flooding situation in several areas, with the E-11 drain overflowing and water entering a road and some basements, according to the district administration.
Officials said the affected basements had already been sealed by the district administration as a precautionary measure. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad was present at the site, where drainage operations were underway.
The administration deployed additional dewatering pumps, while sanitation staff continued pumping operations to clear accumulated rainwater and restore normal conditions.
Around 150mm of rainfall was recorded in E-11, adding to pressure on the area’s drainage system.
The district administration said efforts were also being made to maintain traffic flow on major roads, including Islamabad Expressway, despite the heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a protective wall collapsed in D-12/2 due to the rain. According to officials, no loss of life or property was reported in the incident, while relief and response activities continued at the site.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in Ghauri Town Phase-II, where district administration teams were carrying out drainage operations under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner.
Sanitation staff were deployed to affected locations to facilitate the removal of accumulated water, while officials continued monitoring the situation.
The district administration urged citizens to take precautionary measures, limit unnecessary movement during the heavy rain and immediately inform the authorities in case of an emergency.
Residents have particularly been advised to remain cautious around drains, low-lying areas and waterlogged roads until the situation improves.
