ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has launched the long-awaited clearance of a clogged main sewer drain on Exchange Road near the Tarlai Class School bus stop to improve drainage and reduce flooding during the monsoon season.
Assistant Commissioner Nilore Saif-ul-Islam supervised the operation, under which heavy machinery has been deployed to remove accumulated silt, garbage and other obstructions from the drain to restore the smooth flow of rainwater.
Residents welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of the Islamabad administration, Assistant Commissioner Saif-ul-Islam and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
According to local residents, rainwater frequently accumulated on the road during heavy showers, disrupting traffic and creating serious difficulties for students of Tarlai Class School and other commuters. They said the drainage work would significantly improve water disposal and ease movement for students, parents and the general public.
Residents also expressed hope that such maintenance activities would continue on a regular basis to prevent future sewerage problems and ensure better municipal services.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Saif-ul-Islam said resolving public issues promptly remains the Islamabad administration’s top priority. He said authorities are responding swiftly to public complaints and taking practical measures to improve the city’s drainage system in collaboration with all relevant departments.
He also urged citizens to avoid dumping waste into drains and on roads, calling for public cooperation to help keep the city clean and minimise drainage problems during the rainy season.
