RAWALPINDI: The Forest and Wildlife Department has intensified its crackdown on illegal timber transportation, seizing a Suzuki pickup allegedly carrying illegally cut timber during an enforcement operation on Kahuta Road.
The operation was conducted on the special directions of Conservator of Forests Kamran Kazmi and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rawalpindi North Umar Atiq Satti.
Teams comprising the Assistant Conservators of Forests (ACFs) from Kahuta and Kotli, along with field staff, carried out the operation and intercepted the Suzuki pickup on Kahuta Road.
The vehicle and the recovered timber were immediately taken into official custody and shifted to the ACF Kahuta office. The vehicle was detained as further legal proceedings were initiated.
DFO Rawalpindi North Umar Atiq Satti said a detailed investigation into the incident had been launched. He said strict legal action would be taken under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act against the timber mafia and anyone found involved in illegal cutting or transportation of forest resources.
The enforcement action was welcomed by local residents and environmental circles, who appreciated the department’s prompt response and called for continued monitoring to prevent illegal logging and protect the region’s forests.
The Forest and Wildlife Department has reiterated its commitment to combating illegal timber activities through sustained field surveillance, enforcement operations and legal action to safeguard forest resources.
