ISLAMABAD: The Green Youth Movement Club (Male Campus), in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs (Male), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a seminar titled “Water Conservation and Management in South Asia, Particularly in Pakistan” at the Faculty of Management Sciences to promote awareness about water security, regional cooperation and sustainable water resource management.
The seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from Dr. H. Ghufran Ahmad, Focal Person of the Green Youth Movement Club (Male Campus).
Delivering the keynote address, Farid Khan presented a detailed overview of the Indus Waters Treaty, discussing its historical background, legal framework, strategic importance and emerging regional challenges. He also highlighted issues related to transboundary water governance, water security, increasing water scarcity and the policy measures needed to ensure the sustainable management of water resources in South Asia, with a particular focus on Pakistan.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Officers Academy emphasized the role of young people in addressing national challenges. He encouraged students to develop leadership skills, contribute to national development and prepare themselves for future career opportunities. The session concluded with an interactive discussion in which students raised questions on various issues.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Masood ur Rehman from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Junaid Ghauri underscored the importance of responsible water management, environmental awareness and informed public dialogue on regional water issues.
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. H. Ghufran Ahmad, Director Student Affairs (Male) and Focal Person of the Green Youth Movement Club (Male Campus), who appreciated the speakers, participants and organizers for contributing to a meaningful discussion on one of the region’s most pressing environmental and strategic challenges.
