Forest Fire in Darel Controlled Through Joint Efforts of Forest Staff and Community

Darel, Gilgit-Baltistan: A forest fire reported in Gayal Nullah Compartment C-5, Chiro Gallo Darel, has been successfully controlled through coordinated efforts by the Gilgit-Baltistan Forest Department and local community members.

The Forest Department received information about the fire at around 7:00 pm and immediately mobilised its field staff. The department also coordinated with local residents to respond to the incident.

A joint team of forest field staff and community volunteers reached the affected area early the following morning with necessary firefighting equipment. The team established fire lines and trenches around the affected area and succeeded in controlling the spread of the fire.

The Forest Department said the situation is currently under control. However, smoke may remain visible for the next two to three days due to the burning of dry debris and fallen trees in the affected area. The department clarified that continued smoke does not necessarily indicate an active, uncontrolled fire.

The department also said that an image circulating on some social media platforms in connection with the incident is AI-generated and does not represent the actual situation on the ground.

The Forest Department appreciated the timely support and cooperation of local community members who participated in the firefighting operation.

The department said it remains committed to protecting forests, biodiversity and natural resources in Gilgit-Baltistan through rapid response, field monitoring and community participation.
