RAWALPINDI: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, is advancing its vision of establishing a Heritage Museum within its historic campus through strategic collaboration with government departments and leading heritage institutions.
As part of the initiative, the FJWU Heritage Museum Committee visited Lahore to engage with key heritage organizations, seek technical guidance, explore institutional partnerships and identify future avenues for collaboration.
The delegation, constituted under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (Pride of Performance, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz), comprised Dr. Suriyya Choudhary, Chair of the Museum Committee; Dr. Samrana Afzal from the Department of International Relations; and Ms. Raheela Bhatti from the Department of Fine Arts.
During the visit, the committee held meetings with representatives of three major heritage institutions: the Information and Culture Department, Government of Punjab; the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA); and the Lahore Museum.
The discussions focused on key aspects of establishing and managing a heritage museum, including heritage documentation, conservation methodologies, museology, academic integration, public engagement and long-term institutional partnerships.
The committee received valuable recommendations and technical insights from the participating heritage experts. The consultations are expected to contribute significantly to the development of a museum that preserves the historical authenticity of FJWU while incorporating innovative approaches to education, research and public engagement.
FJWU expressed its appreciation to Mr. Awais Nawaz, Additional Secretary, Culture and Information Department, Government of Punjab; Mr. Kamran Lashari, Director General, Walled City of Lahore Authority; Mr. Najam-us-Saqib, Director Conservation, WCLA; Mr. Asim Rizwan, Deputy Director, Lahore Museum; and all participating heritage experts for their valuable guidance and support.
The proposed Heritage Museum is envisioned as an important platform for preserving and showcasing the extraordinary historical legacy of Fatima Jinnah Women University. It will also create new opportunities for teaching, research and community engagement in the fields of heritage conservation, museology and public history.
The initiative reflects FJWU’s broader commitment to preserving cultural heritage while connecting its historic legacy with contemporary academic and community-oriented practices.
