RAWALPINDI: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Rawalpindi has intensified its campaign against banned single-use plastic bags as part of the Punjab government’s efforts to reduce plastic pollution.
EPA teams conducted inspections at different locations in Rawalpindi to check the sale and use of banned polythene bags.
During the campaign, officials confiscated 177 kilograms of banned plastic bags, which were disposed of according to EPA standard operating procedures.
The teams also raised awareness among shopkeepers about the environmental impacts of single-use plastic and encouraged them to use biodegradable and cloth bags instead.
As part of the campaign, 10 shopkeepers made written pledges to comply with the regulations and avoid the use of banned plastic bags.
The EPA Rawalpindi said inspections and enforcement activities would continue to promote compliance and reduce plastic waste in the city.
Reducing single-use plastic is important for protecting land and water resources, preventing blocked drainage and reducing pollution that can harm communities and ecosystems.
