GUJRANWALA, September 7, 2026: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Gujranwala has intensified its night-time enforcement operations against the open burning of waste and crop residue across the district as part of efforts to control air pollution and smog.
The EPA Gujranwala Night Squad conducted night patrols at different locations and identified incidents involving the open burning of solid waste and agricultural residue. Enforcement action was taken against violators during the operation.
Open burning releases smoke and harmful pollutants into the atmosphere and is considered a significant contributor to deteriorating air quality, particularly during periods of increased smog.
EPA officials said the department would continue zero-tolerance enforcement operations against open burning and urged citizens, farmers and businesses to avoid burning waste and crop residue in the open.
The agency also called for responsible waste disposal and environmentally friendly alternatives to burning agricultural residue, emphasizing that preventing pollution requires cooperation between regulatory authorities and the public.
The ongoing night patrols are part of broader efforts to strengthen environmental enforcement and protect public health by reducing sources of air pollution across Gujranwala.
