GUJRANWALA: The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified its enforcement campaign against industrial units violating the Smog Prevention and Control Rules 2023, carrying out a series of operations across Gujranwala to curb air pollution and protect public health.
During the enforcement drive, EPA inspection teams visited various industrial facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and emissions standards. The operations were supported by Special Night Surveillance Squads, which continued monitoring industrial activities to prevent pollution during nighttime operations.
According to the EPA, three industrial units were sealed, while two illegally operating units were demolished for violating environmental laws. In addition, a fine of Rs200,000 was imposed on offenders, and one First Information Report (FIR) was registered against a violator.
Officials reiterated that industries failing to comply with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) would not be allowed to operate, emphasizing the department’s “No SOPs, No Operation” policy.
The EPA said the crackdown is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to reduce smog, improve air quality, and safeguard public health. Authorities warned that strict legal action against environmental violators would continue without discrimination, urging all industrial operators to fully comply with environmental regulations.
