Rs400,000 EV Subsidy? Pakistan’s Big Surprise

Rs400,000 EV Subsidy? Pakistan’s Big Surprise

Pakistan is considering a major push toward electric transport, with the federal government proposing subsidies of up to Rs80,000 for electric bikes and Rs400,000 for electric rickshaws under its New Energy Vehicles (NEV) Policy 2025–30.

The proposal was presented in the National Assembly as part of efforts to make cleaner transport more affordable, reduce reliance on imported fuel and encourage local electric-vehicle manufacturing.

The government also plans to establish around 3,000 public EV charging stations by 2030, along with 40 fast-charging stations at selected locations on motorways and the N-5 highway. Battery-swapping facilities and charging points at existing petrol stations are also being encouraged.

Under the policy, Pakistan is targeting a 30% share of electric vehicles in new vehicle sales by 2030. Government estimates suggest full implementation could save around 2.07 billion litres of fuel annually and potentially cut carbon emissions by up to 4.5 million tonnes.

Important: The proposed Rs80,000 and Rs400,000 subsidies should not yet be treated as guaranteed payments. Final eligibility and availability depend on the relevant government scheme and its conditions.
