In a recent consultative session organized by the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Dr Jamal Nasir, emphasized the critical need to raise the maximum age restriction for girls’ marriage.
The minister believed that hormonal fluctuations throughout adolescence could lead to physiological issues, emphasizing the importance of protecting young females from the dangers of early marriage.
Speaking as the event’s primary guest, Dr Nasir warned against forcing younger girls or those who are not physically or emotionally mature into marriage, as this could result in a slew of issues for these young brides.
Citing medical facts, he emphasized women’s inherent fragility and the importance of protecting their basic rights.
He warned that initiating them into marital life at such a young age could have serious consequences for their physical health.
