CHITRAL: The Chitral Forest Sub-Division organized a mega plantation drive at Sayed Abad Roadside in Ayun on August 14, 2026, to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day and promote environmental conservation.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Rao Hashim Azeem, who attended the event as chief guest, formally inaugurated the plantation campaign along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Abdus Salam and Assistant Commissioner (HQ) Riaz Ahmad by planting Deodar saplings.
The plantation drive received enthusiastic participation from students of GHSS Ayun, GHS Broze, GHS Gehriat and Ayun Sahan Madrassa, as well as residents of Birir, Sayedabad and Ayun.
A total of 1,200 Deodar saplings were planted during the event.
Addressing the participants, the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Chitral and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Lower Chitral highlighted the importance of large-scale plantation in combating climate change, expanding forest cover and creating a cleaner and safer environment for future generations.
They emphasized that plantation initiatives must be accompanied by proper care and protection of newly planted trees to ensure their long-term survival.
The forest officials appreciated the district administration, students and local communities for their active participation and contribution to making the Independence Day plantation campaign successful.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting forest conservation, climate resilience and a greener Chitral.
