ISLAMABAD: In the wake of recent heavy rains and consequent damage in Gwadar and other areas of Balochistan, Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari has announced a comprehensive humanitarian effort to address the immediate needs. affected communities.
He chaired an emergency response meeting involving the Secretary-General and relevant departments and issued detailed instructions for emergency rescue and relief operations.
He said the PRCS national headquarters had already activated its operations room to closely monitor the situation.
In collaboration with program managers and the Balochistan Provincial Branch, PRCS has drawn up a detailed action plan aimed at providing timely assistance to those affected by adverse weather conditions. Rapid assessment teams have been mobilized at both the district and provincial levels to assess the extent of damage and carry out critical rescue and relief work, he added.
Chairman Laghari directed the mobilization of relief packages from stockpiles to meet the immediate needs of the affected individuals. The action plan prioritizes the provision of basic non-food needs for the household, the deployment of medical teams, the establishment of public health facilities, the promotion of personal hygiene and the provision of access to clean drinking water for the disabled.

He said by maintaining open lines of communication, the PRCS is in constant touch with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the district administration to effectively coordinate efforts and optimize resources for maximum impact.
Stressing the urgency of coordinated action, Chairman Laghari said, “Our priority is to quickly address the needs of affected individuals in Gwadar and other affected areas of Balochistan. We are working tirelessly to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most, and our teams are fully committed to helping in any way possible.”
Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Gwadar, Kech district and other parts of Balochistan, disrupting normal life and traffic on the coastal highway. Officials reported continuous rainfall for 12 hours, causing urban flooding and significant damage to infrastructure.
