A $1 million reward has been offered to solve the mystery of an ancient script belonging to the Harappan Civilization.
Researchers have been trying for years to decode this script, dating back to 5300 to 3300 years ago, from the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. This civilization thrived between 2600 and 1900 BCE in parts of what is now Pakistan, northwestern India, and northeastern Afghanistan.
The script, made up of signs and symbols created by the people of the Indus Valley, could provide vital insights into one of the world’s earliest urban societies. However, no one has yet been able to decipher it.
Professor Rajesh PN Rao, a computer scientist at the University of Washington, shared that he has received emails from several codebreakers, mostly from India, claiming that they have solved the puzzle. However, these individuals have overlooked key facts related to the script in their answers.
In light of recent research that suggested similarities between the symbols in the script and ancient Tamil poetry, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has announced a $1 million reward for the person who successfully decodes the ancient script.
