Islamabad: The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Tuesday celebrated the 128th Adwa Victory Day in Islamabad in the presence of a large number of government officials from various ministries and armed forces, members of parliament, diplomatic corps, business community, civil society, media and especially Ethiopian Diaspora in Pakistan.
Celebrated with national fervor and fervor, the day featured several events including documentaries on the history of Adwa’s victory in Ethiopia against the then colonizers, Ethiopia’s role in laying the foundations of Pan-Africanism and its consistent diplomacy to promote regional integration.
Senior Member of Parliament and Member of the National Assembly H.E. Khawaja Asif graced the Adwa Victory Day function as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula, FDRE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan, extended his felicitations to the whole of Africa, especially the people of Ethiopia, on the occasion of the 128th Adwa Victory Day, which is being commemorated under the theme “Victory of Adwa Blacks”.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Pakistan for celebrating the 128th anniversary of the victory of the black people in such large numbers.
HE. Ambassador Jemal Beker briefed the esteemed participants in Islamabad on the historic role played by the Battle of Adwa in igniting the movement for freedom, equality and freedom across Africa and other continents against colonization.
On March 2, 1896, a united Ethiopia achieved its greatest victory on the battlefield against invading forces that truly changed the course of history, humanity, political and social narratives at the global level, the ambassador noted.
Adwa’s victory is the inspiration and spirit of Pan-Africanism that fueled anti-colonial movements around the world, the ambassador noted.
Adwa’s victory symbolized Ethiopian unity and pan-Africanism, he said, while highlighting major initiatives of the reformist government of Ethiopia that further promote regional integration in the region.
He said Ethiopia has built the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which would further promote regional integration through energy exports. Ethiopia has already shared its resources with the people of neighboring countries and will continue to do so.
The Ambassador said the Green Legacy Initiative of H.E. Dr Abi Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, was also another major government initiative to strengthen cooperation with regional countries in mitigating global issues such as climate change and food insecurity.
Over the past four years, 32.5 billion saplings of various fruits, plants, trees and animal fodder have been planted under the Green Legacy campaign, he added.
The ambassador also expressed his determination to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries through economic diplomacy.
He announced Hijra Trip II, another trade delegation of the Pakistani business community to Ethiopia this year, to boost trade between the two countries.
The Embassy of Ethiopia mobilized a historic delegation of 75 businessmen to Ethiopia last year, the ambassador added.
Chief Guest Khawaja Muhammad Asif also congratulated the people of Ethiopia and Africa on Adwa Victory Day.
He also emphasized the need for the Pakistani business community to explore African markets, especially through Ethiopia, which is the gateway to the African continent.
