KARACHI, Pakistan — Pakistan is set to receive another major wheat shipment, raising hopes that increased supplies could help ease flour prices, which remain high in several parts of the country.
The vessel Great Rambo, carrying 59,132 metric tonnes of wheat, is expected to arrive at Karachi Port today, according to a report by 24 News HD. The ship is scheduled to dock at the Karachi Gateway Terminal, where arrangements have been made to handle the bulk cargo.
The arrival follows an earlier shipment of approximately 51,000 tonnes of wheat that reached Karachi Port on October 28.
Continued wheat imports are expected to support the country’s food supply and improve market availability. However, whether the additional supplies will translate into lower flour prices for consumers remains to be seen.
Flour Prices Remain High in Lahore
Despite ongoing wheat imports, flour prices in Lahore remain elevated. According to the report, a 15-kilogram bag of flour is selling for around Rs2,300 to Rs2,400, while a 10-kilogram bag at the government-set rate is priced at Rs1,100.
The report also puts the price of chakki flour at approximately Rs190 per kilogram, reflecting continued pressure on household food budgets.
Market prices may depend on how quickly imported wheat reaches the supply chain and whether the increased availability brings meaningful relief to consumers.
