Lahore’s Rooftops Face a New Rule!

Lahore’s Rooftops Face a New Rule!

Lahore is preparing for a regulated Basant celebration from March 12 to 14, 2027, but residents planning to fly kites from their rooftops will have to meet strict new safety requirements.

Punjab authorities have ordered that rooftops used for kite flying must have strong safety walls at least 3.5 feet high by December 31, 2026. Authorities will inspect older buildings and unsafe rooftops, and kite flying could be prohibited where safety standards are not met.

The government has also announced safety measures for motorcyclists, with Lahore traffic police planning to install protective rods on more than 2 million motorcycles before Basant.

Kite flying outside the officially permitted dates will remain prohibited. Violations could result in up to five years in prison and a fine of up to Rs20 million.
