LAYYAH: The Green City Project, in collaboration with Press Club Chowk Azam, has organised a seminar to promote tree plantation and encourage joint efforts to make Chowk Azam greener, cleaner and less polluted.
The seminar was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Layyah Asif Ali Dogar, Assistant Commissioner Layyah Rana Zohaib and Deputy Conservator of Forests Layyah Division Dr Sajjad Haider Zaidi.
The event aimed to highlight the importance of tree plantation, launch a local greening campaign and develop a joint strategy to address the growing risks of global warming and environmental pollution.
During the seminar, speakers stressed that planting trees alone was not enough. Proper watering, care and protection of saplings were equally important to ensure their survival and long-term environmental benefits.
Officials from the district administration and Forest Department called for the active participation of local residents, traders, students and civil society in turning Chowk Azam into a Green City. They said the goal could not be achieved through government efforts alone and required cooperation from the entire community.
Dr Sajjad Haider Zaidi highlighted the growing challenges posed by climate change and global warming, urging people to take an active part in plantation campaigns. He said planting and protecting trees was both a responsibility towards future generations and a way to contribute to a healthier environment.
The seminar was followed by a tree plantation activity, marking a practical step towards the proposed greening initiative.
The campaign highlights the importance of community-led environmental action, particularly in ensuring that newly planted trees survive and contribute to cleaner air, urban greenery and improved resilience to rising temperatures.
