CHARSADDA: The Wildlife Department has conducted an enforcement raid at a bird dealer’s shop in Charsadda to check for the illegal possession, sale and trade of wild birds.
The operation was conducted by DFO Wildlife Peshawar Mrs Manahil Wahab along with the Sub-Divisional Wildlife Officer (SDWO) and Range Officer (RO) of Charsadda Sub-Division.
During the raid, wildlife officials inspected bird dealer shops and premises and issued challans for violations found during the operation under relevant wildlife protection laws and regulations.
Following the enforcement action, the wildlife team visited Shakoor Mehra Jat and Behram Dherii to assess the local wildlife situation and monitor reports of illegal trapping of falcons.
The concerned areas were inspected and necessary instructions were issued to field staff to strengthen monitoring and prevent illegal hunting, trapping and trade of wild birds under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015.
The DFO also inspected wildlife staff deployed at the Peshawar Motorway Toll Plaza and directed them to remain vigilant and maintain strict enforcement against the illegal transportation and smuggling of wild birds across the province.
The department said such field operations are part of its continuing efforts to control illegal wildlife trade and strengthen the protection and conservation of wild bird species.
Effective enforcement, regular field monitoring and cooperation with local communities can play an important role in protecting wildlife and maintaining biodiversity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
