ISLAMABAD, September 29: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has accelerated its citywide plantation and landscaping activities to increase Islamabad’s green cover, improve environmental quality and make the federal capital more attractive for residents and tourists.
The campaign is being carried out under the directions of Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and the supervision of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf. The CDA Environment Wing is carrying out plantation, landscaping and beautification activities along major roads, green belts, parks, recreational areas, public spaces and other suitable locations.
The authority said the campaign aims to strengthen Islamabad’s distinctive green character while creating a cleaner, healthier and more pleasant urban environment for residents and visitors.
Special attention is being given to improving green belts, planting along major roads and corridors, upgrading public spaces and enhancing the landscape around prominent locations. CDA has also emphasised that the campaign is not limited to planting new trees, but includes their proper care, growth and long-term survival.
The ongoing work follows the CDA’s broader plantation and landscaping programme, which includes strategic planting along roads, interchanges, parks and public spaces. The authority has previously highlighted the importance of ensuring that plantation produces lasting environmental benefits rather than remaining a seasonal activity.
Urban trees and green spaces can provide shade, support biodiversity, improve the quality of urban environments and help reduce heat exposure. Well-maintained green areas can also contribute to the recreational and tourism appeal of the capital.
The CDA said its Environment Wing is continuing landscaping, beautification and environmental protection activities alongside the plantation drive to strengthen the overall impact of the initiative.
The authority has also stressed the importance of protecting newly planted trees and maintaining existing green areas. Sustained maintenance and community responsibility will be important for ensuring that the additional green cover develops over the long term.
CDA said the plantation and landscaping campaign would continue as part of efforts to develop Islamabad as a greener, cleaner, environmentally sustainable and tourist-friendly capital.
