LAHORE: The Punjab Clean Air Program (PCAP) has held a stakeholder consultation on a proposed carbon-credit initiative linked to the introduction of 120,000 electric two- and three-wheelers under its affordable financing scheme.
The initiative aims to develop a framework through which the reduction in vehicle emissions from the shift to electric mobility can be measured, verified and potentially converted into carbon credits.
Representatives from government departments, financial institutions, electric vehicle manufacturers, service providers, civil society and consumer groups participated in the consultation.
The stakeholders discussed key areas including project financing, charging and related infrastructure, accessibility and inclusion, as well as the development of a credible carbon-credit framework.
The initiative links clean transport with efforts to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. A well-designed monitoring and verification system will be important to demonstrate the actual emissions reductions achieved through the transition to electric vehicles.
The consultation is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to promote cleaner mobility and support measures aimed at improving air quality and reducing transport-related emissions.
