Varun Dhawan Raises Concern Over Declining Soil Nutrients After Farm Visit

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has turned his recent move into farming into a wider conversation about soil health and agricultural sustainability. After visiting his newly acquired farmland, Dhawan said farmers told him that soil today lacks some of the natural nutrients they believe were more readily available in the past. He specifically raised concerns about nutrients such as zinc and magnesium and the impact of chemical use on soil.

Dhawan, who revealed his farm purchase in August, said the issue had been “giving me sleepless nights” and asked farmers and people involved in food production for suggestions on how soil health could be improved. Rather than presenting a solution himself, he has used his public platform to seek practical advice from those working directly with agriculture.

The concerns he highlighted point to a broader agricultural challenge. Healthy soil depends on more than individual nutrients: organic matter, soil microorganisms, balanced fertilisation, water management, crop rotation and erosion control all influence long-term soil fertility. Soil testing can also help farmers identify specific nutrient deficiencies before applying fertilisers or other inputs.

Dhawan’s comments have therefore sparked a conversation that goes beyond his personal farm. As agriculture faces pressure from intensive cultivation, changing climate conditions and rising demand for food, maintaining healthy soils is increasingly important for productive farms, resilient ecosystems and sustainable food systems.
