NANKANA SAHIB, September 15, 2026: Pakistan’s tree lovers, environmentalists and green champions will be honoured at the Green Hero Awards 2026, being organised alongside the 3rd National Conference on Bamboo 2026.

The awards will recognise individuals who have made notable contributions to tree plantation, forest conservation, environmental protection, climate action, natural resource conservation and sustainable development in Pakistan.

The special award ceremony will be held during the two-day national conference, titled “Green Gold for Circular Economy: Role of Bamboo in Sustainability, Climate Resilience and Eco-Friendly Products.” The conference is scheduled for September 17 and 18, with the first day at Baba Guru Nanak University, Nankana Sahib, and the second day at Rana Safari & Luxury Resort, Head Balloki.

The event will also mark World Bamboo Day on September 18 and will focus on the potential of bamboo as a sustainable resource for Pakistan. Discussions will cover bamboo cultivation, research, industry, value addition, tourism, architecture, art and craft, eco-friendly products and the circular economy.

The Green Hero Awards aim to highlight people who are working quietly in different parts of the country to make Pakistan greener. They include those promoting tree plantation, protecting forests and natural resources, supporting sustainable development, working with farmers and communities, and raising environmental awareness among young people.

The initiative is being organised with the cooperation and support of Baba Guru Nanak University, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, the Agri Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan (ATDCP) and other relevant organisations and stakeholders.

The participation and support of Dr Shaza Mansab Ali is also expected to add importance to the national event.

Ideal College Sheikhupura, through Engr Imtiaz Asad, is providing special support and sponsorship for the Green Hero Awards. The organisers have appreciated the contribution towards recognising people working for a greener and more environmentally friendly Pakistan.

The conference will explore how bamboo can create new opportunities from cultivation and research to industry, tourism, architecture, handicrafts and circular economy activities. Organisers believe bamboo can become an important green economic resource while supporting climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The wider vision of the event is to promote greener farms, value-added agriculture, rural tourism, green entrepreneurship and stronger community participation in environmental protection.

The Green Hero Awards 2026 will complement this vision by recognising the people already working to protect nature and promote a greener Pakistan.

The organisers say the message is simple: Bamboo for a Greener Future and Green Heroes for a Greener Pakistan.
