PCF Pakistan Visits Tharparkar to Explore Sustainability, Climate Action and Community Development

THARPARKAR: The Progressive Climate Foundation Pakistan (PCF) visited Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) in Tharparkar to learn about its operations, environmental initiatives and community development programmes.

The visit provided the PCF team with an opportunity to observe various initiatives related to sustainability, environmental management and community welfare, while gaining insights into how large-scale development projects can incorporate environmental and social considerations.

The team appreciated Imran Aslam, General Manager Sustainability & Safety at SECMC, for facilitating the visit and sharing valuable information about the company’s sustainability efforts and community-focused initiatives.

During the visit, participants observed initiatives covering plantation and green spaces as well as programmes related to education, healthcare and community development.

A plantation activity was also organised during the visit, with Haris Ali Shah, Vice President PCF Sindh, and other participants actively taking part and planting saplings. The activity highlighted the participants’ commitment to environmental conservation and a greener future.

The field visit offered the PCF team a practical perspective on the relationship between economic development, environmental responsibility and community empowerment.

PCF Pakistan said such field-based learning opportunities can help strengthen understanding of sustainability and climate action while encouraging greater collaboration between communities, development organisations and other stakeholders.

The visit concluded as a meaningful learning experience, highlighting the importance of pursuing development in ways that support environmental responsibility, resilient communities and long-term sustainability.
