ISLAMABAD: Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon chaired a meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee (DPEC) to review preparations and arrangements for the September 2026 special anti-polio campaign in the federal capital.
According to a briefing given at the meeting, the special polio vaccination campaign will be conducted across Islamabad from September 21 to 24, covering all 80 union councils of the capital.
Authorities have set a target of administering polio drops to 447,614 children during the four-day campaign.
The meeting also reviewed the performance of the previous polio campaign, with officials examining operational challenges and identifying areas requiring additional attention and improved field coordination.
Detailed discussions were held on administrative and field-level strategies to make the upcoming campaign more effective and ensure maximum coverage of eligible children.
DC Irfan Nawaz Memon directed the concerned departments to complete all field preparations and ensure comprehensive training of polio teams before the campaign begins.
He stressed that no child should be left without polio vaccination and directed officials to ensure that all teams perform their assigned responsibilities effectively.
The Deputy Commissioner further ordered that the performance of polio teams in all union councils should be reviewed on a daily basis during the campaign. Monitoring mechanisms should be strengthened to identify gaps promptly and ensure timely corrective measures.
He also called for close coordination among relevant departments, field teams and local administration to address challenges in areas where vaccination coverage has previously remained difficult.
The DC appealed to parents to fully cooperate with polio vaccination teams and ensure that their children receive the required protective drops.
The September campaign is part of ongoing efforts to maintain high vaccination coverage and protect children in Islamabad from polio virus.
