NOWSHERA: A large-scale Independence Day plantation drive was held at Spinkhak, Nowshera, bringing together senior provincial leadership, government officials, forest department personnel and local stakeholders in a collective effort to promote a greener and more climate-resilient Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The plantation event was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, along with Meena Khan Afridi, Minister for Local Government and Higher Education; Pir Musavir Khan Ghazi, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife; and Khaleeq Ur Rehman, Minister for Health. Members of the Provincial and National Assemblies also participated.
Senior officials of the Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife Department and the KP Forest Department were present, including Muhammad Junaid, Secretary Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife Department; Deputy Commissioner Nowshera; District Police Officer Nowshera; Ahmad Jalil, Chief Conservator of Forests, Region-I; Shah Hussain, Conservator of Forests; Mazhar Iqbal, Director Community Development; Muhammad Shakil, Divisional Forest Officer Peshawar Forest Division; and Abdus Satar, SDFO Peshawar Forest Division.
A large number of forest department officers, field staff and other officials also participated in the plantation activity.
The event highlighted the importance of expanding forest cover, protecting natural ecosystems and strengthening public participation in environmental conservation.
Officials emphasized that plantation activities should go beyond ceremonial events and be followed by effective protection, maintenance and monitoring of planted trees to ensure their long-term survival.
The Independence Day mega plantation at Spinkhak was described as a collective commitment to protecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s natural heritage and building a greener, healthier and climate-resilient province for future generations.
