ISLAMABAD, Aug. 5: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Dr. Musadik Malik and Governor of Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi have agreed to launch a province-wide Tree Plantation Drive, Urban Forest Programme, and a special Independence Day plantation campaign across Sindh to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The decision was taken during a meeting in Islamabad, where the two leaders discussed key environmental priorities and measures to expand green spaces across the province.
The leaders agreed that large-scale afforestation and the development of urban forests are essential to improving air quality, mitigating the impacts of climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and creating healthier urban environments.
As part of the initiative, a province-wide tree plantation campaign will be launched on Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14), encouraging the participation of government institutions, educational establishments, civil society organizations, and the general public.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between federal and provincial institutions to accelerate climate action and strengthen environmental protection initiatives across Sindh.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sustainable development through nature-based solutions and increasing public participation in afforestation campaigns aimed at building a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Pakistan.
