Islamabad, December 2025 — The Punjab Family Planning Program (PFPP), under the Health and Population Departments of the Government of Punjab, has launched an on-ground outreach initiative titled Behtar Qadam to engage communities on issues related to family planning and reproductive health across the province.

Punjab Family Planning Program introduces community outreach initiative

Launched in November 2025, the initiative is being implemented with partner organizations Rayn and Riz Consulting. According to PFPP officials, the program focuses on community-level engagement rather than prescriptive messaging, aiming to provide information and facilitate discussions on family planning and healthy birth spacing.

The outreach activities target a broad audience, including women, married couples, youth, extended families, community members, non-governmental and community-based organizations, and religious scholars. Activities are being carried out across all 41 districts of Punjab.

Focus on maternal, newborn and child health

Officials stated that the initiative places particular emphasis on maternal, newborn, and child health, while highlighting the role of planned and healthy spacing between births. The program links family planning with broader social and economic outcomes for households and communities.

Dr. Zahida Sarwar, Project Lead of the Behtar Qadam FP Advocacy Program for PFPP, said the initiative encourages families and communities to make informed decisions using available health services, without discouraging childbirth.

On-ground activities conducted across districts

During the second half of November and the first half of December, more than 90 on-ground events were held across Punjab. PFPP reported that over 8,000 individuals participated in these activities, with a significant proportion being students from more than 67 educational institutions in 35 districts.

The highest number of events were conducted in Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan, followed by Lahore. Multiple activities were also held in districts including Lodhran, Vehari, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Taunsa, Sialkot, Okara, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, and Murree, among others.

Future plans under Punjab Family Planning Program

PFPP plans to expand the initiative further. By June 2027, the program aims to conduct more than 1,293 engagements, including sessions at universities, Sehat Melas, community dialogues, family and couples’ meetings, youth forums, and briefings with religious leaders.

Officials said these activities are intended to address questions and concerns related to family planning and reproductive health through continued community interaction.
