The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted heavy rains in most districts of Punjab, with the monsoon season expected till July 15.
A PDMA spokesperson announced that rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms are expected across the province.
The PDMA warned of a significant risk of urban flooding in major cities, including Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal and Gujranwala. In addition, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi are also at risk of urban flooding due to heavy rainfall.
Despite the expected downpour, water flow in Punjab’s rivers remains normal. The PDMA has confirmed that the water levels in the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum and Sutlej rivers are currently stable.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed all concerned agencies to remain on high alert to ensure the safety of residents. He stressed the importance of completing advance measures, especially in larger cities, to mitigate the potential impact of heavy rains.
The PDMA advises residents to stay informed of current weather information and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
The Met department has predicted heavy rain in several parts of the country today, bringing relief from the scorching heat. Rain is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, upper Punjab and northeast Balochistan.
The capital city of Islamabad is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of rain in and around the city.
The ministry also said that the next spell of monsoon rains in Karachi is expected after July 20. The Meteorological Office has predicted partly cloudy, hot and humid weather for the city.
