Lawyer and MNA Sher Afzal Marwat made headlines this week for refusing to bow to family pressure and refusing to take a second wife to have only one son. With praise doing rounds on social media for Marwat’s words, actor Sonia Hussyn joined the fray with her own words of praise.
“I have so much respect for this man in this cruel society,” actor Saraab said on his Instagram feed.
Earlier this week, Marwat revealed on Nadir Hussain’s podcast that she was under pressure from her family to remarry in the hope of having a son. However, Marwat revealed that he could not leave his wife because of the trauma of having to hold another woman in his life.
“I can’t bring another woman into my life to have a baby,” he said on the podcast. “She basically burned everything in her life to start a new life with you.”
Looking at Marwat’s words, Hussyn said that the community has high hopes for male heirs. “Marrying just to get a son is cruel,” she said. However, he praised Marwat’s devotion to his wife and said that her sincerity and family values would protect her daughters from future pain.
“By taking this decision, he not only gave justice to his wife but also protected his daughters from lifelong trauma,” he said. “I have no doubt her daughter will be incredibly proud one day.” Hussin circulated his post with the caption, “Greetings, sir.”
